Ouyang Ziyuan is a renowned cosmochemist and geochemist, serving as the Chief Scientist of China’s Lunar Exploration Program, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and Academician of the International Academy of Astronautics. He has held numerous leadership positions, including Assistant Researcher, Associate Researcher, Researcher, and Deputy Director of the Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Honorary Commander of the Aerospace Science Popularization Camp, Director of the Bureau of Resources and Environmental Sciences, CAS, and Vice Chairman and Party Leadership Group Member of the Standing Committee of Guizhou Province.


He graduated from Beijing College of Geology (now China University of Geosciences) in 1956, and obtained a graduate degree in mineral deposits from the Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1960. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to research in geochemistry, cosmochemistry, comparative planetology, as well as the study of extraterrestrial impacts on Earth and their role in ecological and biological extinctions. His outstanding academic achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including the National Science Conference Award, the State Natural Science Awards (Third Class and First Class), and the Natural Science Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
