Laurence T. Yang is a distinguished computer scientist, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, and Foreign Academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He currently serves as the Vice President (Academic Affairs) of Zhengzhou University, and is the Dean and Chair Professor of the School of Computer and Artificial Intelligence and the School of Software at Zhengzhou University.
He received his dual Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Physics from Tsinghua University in 1992, and later earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Victoria, Canada. From September 1999 to December 2020, he taught in the Department of Computer Science at St. Francis Xavier University, Canada, where he successively held the positions of Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Tenured Professor, and W.F. James Chair Professor.
In July 2010, he was appointed Distinguished Professor at the School of Computer Science, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. In 2017, he was elected as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering; in 2019, as a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada; and in 2021, as a Foreign Academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. In December 2020, he was appointed Chair Professor at the School of Computer Science and Technology, Hainan University. In 2024, he became Vice President (Academic Affairs) of Zhengzhou University.
His main research areas include high-performance computing, embedded systems, pervasive computing, and artificial intelligence.
